The Arnolds and the Pfeiffers take their annual summer fishing trip to Lake Winnihacci. While on the trip, Kevin meets and falls in love with a local girl who seems to have a lot in common with him.

Kevin's boss, Mr. Harris, is very demanding and expects a lot from Kevin. After seeing another classmate working at a fast food place, Kevin thinks it looks like fun, and wants to quit the hardware store. The only problem is Harris makes it difficult to quit. After a lot of praying by all the guys, Ricky unbelievably scores his license. Finally, nothing to stand between the guys and the open road. Alvin Pfeiffer's investment in some oceanfront property pays off. But while the both the Arnold's and the Pfeiffer's seem happy over the new developments, Jack Arnold seems a bit put-off by Alvin's new spending habits.

Kevin seems to be doing okay trying to pass his driver's test, with one exception: his parallel parking skills need some work.

Grandpa Arnold has trouble driving, but refuses to listen to anyone's concerns. When Kevin agrees to accompany Grandpa back home, their road trip takes some unexpected turns.

Kevin's English teacher Miss Shaw, has some rather unorthodox methods of teaching. While the class enjoys these new methods, they don't sit well with the school board.

Wayne goes to take his SAT's, but shocks his family when he decides to try and join the army instead. With The Vietnam War still going on, the Arnolds are afraid that Wayne could be shipped off, and into the war.
