Jack gets a job at a diner. When his boss comes onto him and he rebuffs her, she fires him. The girls convince Jack to sue her for sexual harassment. Jack applies for a job at a restaurant. The manager hires him but as a bus boy. Jack can't tell his friends what his job is so he let's them think he got a job as a chef. But when they come to see him, things get complicated.

Chrissy has moved back home to be with her parents and still owes her share of a month's rent for the apartment. Coming up short on the money, Jack and Janet each find a new roommate for the apartment, as do Larry and Mr. Furley. However, when all the potential new roommates meet, Jack, Janet, Larry and Mr. Furley come into a disagreement as to who will be the new tenant. However, all the commotion stops when Chrissy's cousin, Cindy, arrives and informs Jack and Janet that she will be staying with them for a while. Written by Oliver Chu

Jack and Janet aren't too happy when they learn from Cindy that her boss, Mr. Hadley, has her running personal errands for him. When Jack visits Cindy's office to confront him on the allegations, Mr. Hadley gets defensive. He later discovers that she has been typing a resume for Jack during her work time, which ultimately led her being terminated from her job. As a result, Jack promised to set things straight. Jack's been trying to get a job as a chef but no one wants hire an inexperienced guy. He goes to apply at a restaurant. But upon arriving, the owner leaves before Jack can introduce himself and while he's away Jack answers the phone and takes a message from a guy saying he can't make it. When the owner comes back, he vents at being frustrated of having to interview inexperienced chefs. That's when Jack mentions the name of the one who called and the owner assumes Jack is him, a renowned chef. Jack doesn't correct him. Jack helps an elderly woman, Gladys Moore, take her groceries to her apartment, which is in the same complex. Grateful for the help, Gladys brings Jack a thank you gift. Then, she starts to get comfortable with her surroundings, getting Jack cookies and milk, showing up unannounced to help Jack at work and trying to tend to his everyday needs. Jack plans a big night for his date with Cheryl, but her father shows up instead of Cheryl. He wants some tips on connecting with women. The father immediately puts the tips to use by asking Janet out.

When Janet's parents arrive, Jack and Cindy learn that her parents think that she and Jack are married. And when they stay, she and Jack have to keep up the charade which includes them sleeping together which is awkward.

Wealthy man Winston Cromwell III wants to marry Cindy and tries to pamper her with loads of expensive gifts. Unimpressed, Cindy wants Jack and Janet to help turn Winston away. Jack poses as Cindy's brother and plans to tell Winston that his family want nothing to do with him. When Winston offers a job for Jack at a French Chateau, Jack accepts the offer and welcomes Winston to the family, putting Cindy in a bind. Written by Oliver Chu

When Furley refuses to stand up to his brother and tell him that he has to fix the apartment building, Jack goes and talks to him. The guy is impressed with Jack that he makes him the new building manager leaving Furley out in the cold. They try to come up with a plan to get him alone so that Furley can finally stand up to him. Jack and the girls have been unappreciative of each other. When Larry is informed of the problem, he offers to switch places with Jack; Larry will live with the girls and Jack will live in Larry's apartment. Soon after, Jack was feeling lonely and is devastated to see that the girls have been seemingly getting along well with Larry. Therefore, Jack wants everything back as if they were before. Dean Travers offers Jack a teaching position at a cooking class and informs him his niece, Betty Jean, will attend and will need special attention in the learning process. When Janet wants to attend as well, Jack welcomes her but informs her that no special attention will be given. However, Janet is upset when she notices that Jack has been doing just the opposite to Betty Jean. Cindy's having trouble with her boyfriend and tells Jack and Janet about it. At the same time a friend of hers is pregnant and the father ran out on her. She offers to help. She calls someone asking for anything that she can give to help her friend. Jack and Janet over hear part of her conversation and assume that she's the one who's pregnant. The Ropers return. It begins with Helen showing up after having a fight with Stanley. She looks for a little support from the kids. When she says she's tired, they tell her that her old apartment is available because Furley is away. So she goes to bed, but Furley comes back and hops into bed not knowing Helen is there. At the Reagle Beagle, Jack and Larry noticed that Mike the Bartender made eye contact with an attractive woman, April, but is quickly reprimanded by her tough and jealous boyfriend, Max. When Jack and Larry gossiped behind Max's back, he overhears them and tries to set them straight. When Max stepped away for a few minutes, Jack advises April to tell Max to control his temper. Jack and Janet come home one day to discover that Cindy is no where to be found. Mr. Furley informs them that he heard loud, banging noises from their apartment earlier and Mike the Bartender mentions that he spotted a teary Cindy getting into a car with an older man.
