Sam leaps into the body of Marine Corps Captain Ron Miller who is in a Veterans Hospital having lost both of his legs in combat in Vietnam. His wife had met him in Tokyo when he was first evacuated from the war zone and it's not apparent why Sam is there. Al thinks it's to reconcile with his wife since history records that has several children. Sam wonders if he's there to help his hospital roommate, Sgt. Billy Johnson who is now a quadriplegic. He seems to have given up on life refusing to have anything to do with his loving girlfriend. Al knows that Billy will commit suicide by drowning himself in the pool so Sam sets out to ensure that it doesn't happen. Sam also becomes close to Kiki Wilson whose brother is MIA and volunteers at the hospital. Sam leaps into the body of Nikos Stahatos, a Greek sailor working aboard a luxury yacht. Sam finds himself in the Mediteranean with one of the passengers, Vanessa Foster, just as the ship explodes. The two survivors couldn't be more different: a rough, working class sailor and the upper class débutante, born with a silver spoon in her mouth and constantly looking down at her inferior raft-mate. They eventually make it to land and begin to know and understand one another. The puzzle for Sam is to understand exactly why he is there. Al hasn't quite figured it out yet but everything Sam does seems to lengthen, rather than shorten, the amount of time it takes for them to be rescued. As Sam continues to leap further along Oswald's life his mind becomes tangled with Oswald's until he loses all control of his actions. Before Sam is lost completely Al discovers there is no conspiracy and must stop Sam/Oswald from killing JFK. In the end Sam and Oswald are separated and Sam's mission is completed. When the probability of Al being executed reaches 100%, Sam finds that Al has been replaced by Edward St. John V (Roddy McDowall) because Al was in fact executed. He also has to deal with his old girlfriend, Lisa, who obviously still has feelings for him and is heartbroken over their break up. However, Al tells Sam that he's there to save his girlfriend Cissy's life. Sometime later that day at the height of the storm, she will return to her home for reasons unknown and be struck by a piece of flying debris. Sam's plan is simple: keep her close by and not let her return home. It doesn't quite work out that when they get a call to evacuate someone in distress. Sam leaps into the body of Jeffrey Mole, a 1970s rock musician and member of a band that has as its trademark heavy makeup. Al tells him that in two nights time, a crazed fan will stab and kill him. The fan in question, 16 year-old Philip Silbart, is emotionally disturbed and has run away from several foster homes. Strange things begin to happen however - like a stage prop falling on his head - which leaves Al and Sam wondering if someone other than Philip may be out to get him. Sam begins to suspect the band's business manager of fiddling the books but it also turns out that Jeffrey is probably Philip's father. Written by garykmcd
