Shaw nearly suffocates while attempting to 'borrow' from a prestigious LA exhibition Alexander the Great's golden mask, rightly believed to be used by the Ring for smuggling high tech contraband from Damascus. Chuck rescues him, unwittingly helped by new Buy more colleague Hannah, and the pair of them is hired by the museum director for the opening night. Casey abuses the occasion to steal a top-secret pill from a locker, as demanded by his former special ops mentor, Army colonel James Keller, who changed his identity, originally Alex Coburn. Chuck saw him and jokingly informs the general, who has Casey arrested as traitor. The Intersect realizes Brenner is a Ring recruiter, so Chuck tells Sara who helps him free their friend. Chuck is finally ready to be accredited as special agent. His hesitation to commit for life subsides when he's allowed to pick a team for his new posting, three years in Rome posing as a millionaire. To his horror, Sara prefers to go to DC with Shaw, believing his red test proves him a killer, no longer the man she fell for, and telling the truth would betray life-savior Casey. Daniel Shaw is not only alive and back, he convincingly pleads to a Washington-mandated CIA panel that general Beckman is incompetent and Chuck's Intersect a mental liability. Chuck discovers that Shaw has a Ring Inyersect himself, but his clumsy attempt to prove that gets him arrested. Casey is diverted by his daughter's kidnapping.
