Dante Gomez, the man Sanchez sent to prison seventeen years ago for killing his girlfriend, asks for early release and gets it. He meets with Sanchez soon after to deliver the extraordinary statement that he couldn't have killed his girlfriend as he was committing another crime at the same time twenty-six miles away. As Major Crimes, bound by law, begins to look into it and starts finding validity to that statement, Dante turns up beaten to death, leaving the team to question who killed his girlfriend and who killed him. Meanwhile, Rusty finally reveals to Sharon that he's been seeing his mom, who's decided to enter a drug rehab rather than face criminal charges. The two women meet. A man who was charged with rape (but his case thrown out) is found dead. The team decides to talk to the woman he raped, but the D.A. who prosecuted the case wants them to tread lightly. When the woman appears to have an alibi, they learn that another woman he assaulted came to L.A. for the trial and is still there. When they talk to her, she appears to be inebriated, so they have Sykes take her out for coffee. Though she confesses to killing him, they don't think she's the one. They open it and find a decomposed body. The body appears to be that of a woman. They learn she's one of Jonny's obsessed fans. It's all fun and games at a raucous teen party until two people are brutally attacked with a pair of scissors and the Major Crimes unit has their hands full picking the culprit out of the crowd. Provenza meets someone who will change his life.

A former child star's Hollywood comeback is killed when he's found dead on skid row. The director of the actor's current movie and his manager are prime suspects. Flynn's daughter comes to visit and asks Sharon how she handles going out with Flynn in the evening and being his boss during the day. There is a miscarriage of justice when a gang banger is acquitted of murder and released from custody. Sharon's ex-husband, Jack Raydor, represents the suspect in a subsequent murder. Rusty takes a chance when the guy he has a crush on visits the station.

Santa finds himself on the naughty list after robbing a bank, but a Santa flash mob complicates his apprehension and the Major Crimes unit scrambles to figure out how things went so wrong. Sharon's kids come to town for the holidays while Buzz starts training as a backup police officer.

Tensions run high when Flynn talks down a man precariously holding on to the ledge of a bridge, only to find out that the jumper is a sex offender with a dead, autistic girl in his pick-up truck. Old wounds are opened as Rusty prepares an Impact Statement to hopefully end his involvement with the Stroh case.

Julio, in visiting his mother, finds her alone and helpless on the floor. When her caregiver suddenly appears, drunk and saying he went on an errand, Sanchez spots him holding his mother's ATM card and $20 bills and assumes he's been stealing. A fight breaks out and the man runs away. Upon also finding his mother's jewelry box missing, Julio asks Lt. Provenza to check the man out, whereby Major Crimes finds him dead in his apartment. Sharon immediately turns the matter over in Internal Affairs to get Julio properly cleared. Meanwhile, as the missing jewelry box anonymously returns intact, Rusty handles the discovery of Sharon's ex-husband Jack drunk in their apartment. Phillip Stroh returns, demanding a new deal from DDA Rios in exchange for his cooperation regarding future murders. In a race against the clock to prevent the deaths of three women, Major Crimes works to save the victims while decoding the source of Stroh's information.

Major Crimes brings in an astrologer to help find the killer they've dubbed Burning Man, who seems to relate the stars to his crimes. Stroh obtains his objective (escape) and weakens police efforts in recapturing him with a clue towards finding Burning Man.
