The firm is facing bankruptcy and is trying to avoid liquidation. David Lee has announced that he is leaving and taking his lucrative divorce practice with him. A judge agrees to to allow them to reorganize and appoints a trustee, Clarke Hayden, to oversee the process. He casts a wary eye on everything from the art work to the fact that Diane and Will are co-managing partners. He proves surprisingly helpful when it comes to David Lee however. Alicia is juggling several balls as she tries to keep her son Zack out of jail after he's stopped by an aggressive State Trooper. Zack actually comes up with a very practical weapon for his defense. Alicia is also having to deal with a political reporter, Peggy Byrne, who wants to know more about her personal life than she is prepared to provide. Wiil's suspension is over and he's back in the courtroom representing a woman who is suing the city of Chicago over the wrongful death of her son Terry Beecham who was tasered by the police at a protest rally. He turns down a reasonable settlement convinced that he can get more but they may have a problem with one of the jurors. Diane approaches Maddie Hayward, their new landlord, in the hope of getting some relief on the rent but Maddie asks to meet Alicia. The trustee, Clarke Hayden, is starting to make personnel cuts Kalinda and her husband Nick continue to spar and it's beginning to affect his her job. She finally confides in Alicia. They claim Chumhum modified it's search engine after they refused to buy online advertising from them so as to ensure that searches for their company, which produced voice recognition software, would no longer appear at the top. They have a case but the trustee, Clarke Hayden, is getting involved in negotiating the settlement. Meanwhile, Ira Gold is having fits with an aggressive journalist who wants to interview Alicia - and who is aware of rumors to the effect that Alicia and Will Gardner had an affair. They are suing the university despite the fact that one of Trey's teammates is in jail for killing him. The opposing lawyer, Jared Andrews, is driving Diane mad by constantly changing his defense. Diane manages to trip him up quite nicely. The media is still after Peter for supposedly having slept with one of his campaign workers. Alicia agrees to an interview intent on dispelling any myths about her marriage. Jackie Florrick is released from hospital apparently recovered from the stroke she suffered. Lockhart Gardner represent Bishop's legitimate businesses - dry cleaning stores, gyms and the like - while lawyer Lesli Rand's firm represents his criminal enterprise. He has no idea which side of his interests are being investigated so he's called all of them in. Kalinda learns that the problems relate to an FBI confidential informant who has disappeared. When that informant is found dead, Bishop knows he will be arrested. The network is protecting itself against any possible fine by the FCC and their lawyer, Burl Preston, suggests that if they can make the FCC tow the line, they'll drop the lawsuit. Alicia and Carey head off to Washington but Dodd keeps going off the agreed script. Carey bumps into his estranged father, a Washington lobbyist. Laura Hellinger has left the military and Alicia agrees to provide a reference for her. She does something better. There are new allegations against Peter and the claim he had an affair with one of his campaign workers. Kalinda learns who has been behind the smear campaign. Will Gardner is defending a woman who is accused of murdering her husband. New Assistant State's Attorney Laura Hellinger is proving quite effective and Will isn't scoring very many points with Judge Harrington Creary. That evening, Will runs into Judge Creary in a bar and is shocked when Creary tells him he's a liar and a thief and that his client is guilty. The next day Alicia asks the judge to recuse himself and when he refuses, she insists on a hearing to determine whether he should be removed. The judge denies under oath having said any of the statements attributed to him. It turns out the judge has something of a drinking problem. Meanwhile, Alicia's daughter Grace takes an interest in a fellow student, Connor. Cary Agos is severely beaten in a parking lot. Written by garykmcd

Diane and Alicia represent Dale Lamborn who is in Federal Court accused of embezzlement and filing fraudulent tax returns. A key piece of prosecution evidence is a taped conversation between Lamborn and his same-sex spouse. Diane and Alicia argue that it should be excluded as it is a confidential communication with a spouse. The prosecution, lawyer Bucky Stabler, argues that the Defense of Marriage Act does not recognize same sex spouses. Into the fray comes high-profile lawyer Jeremy Breslow, a strong advocate of same sex marriage. It's not clear to Diane and Alicia that he has Lamborn's best interest at heart. Meanwhile, Alicia's mother shows up once again widowed - he was her third husband - but in need of legal advice as she has been disinherited. Alicia travels to a remote rural location to depose him and despite a judge's order that he make himself available for 3 hours, she barely seen him for 3 minutes. Wilkes' lawyer is none other that Alicia's nemesis, Louis Canning and her patience is growing thin. Will and Diane square off against Clarke Hayden who seeks to have them removed as head of the firm after foiling his attempt at a merger. Anna denies doping but she did terminate a pregnancy and took medication but she refuses to make that public. On the campaign trail meanwhile, Peter is facing accusations of racial bias in the way he manages his office. Eli and Jordan Karahalios don't quite see eye to eye on how to run the campaign. The Justice Department continues to pursue Eli Gold even though their wiretap evidence has been thrown out. Josh Perotti tells Eli's lawyer, Elsbeth Tascioni, that he will now be pursuing a conspiracy case against her client and has a witness who will testify against him. It turns out that witness is the head of the local Democratic party and his testimony relates to Eli arranging to pack a straw poll with seniors from an old folks home. As both lawyers spar back and forth deftly countering each others thrusts, the case begins to affect Peter's run for governor - and results in Peter's mother Jackie being called as a prosecution witness. Meanwhile, the firm tries to get a contract with the State's Attorney's office to deal with any civil suits brought against them. Written by garykmcd

Alicia and Cary take the lead in representing Lemond Bishop at his preliminary hearing in Federal Court. Felicia is surprised to find that she's up against her nemesis from law school, U.S. Assistant Attorney Liz Lawrence. They don't expect to win at this stage but they should get a good idea of the Justice Department's case. Bishop asks that another lawyer, Charles Lester, join her in in his defense. The bumbling and seemingly harmless Lester accompanies Alicia as she interviews the prosecution's witnesses. When each of those witnesses change their stories on the stand, she begins to wonder just what Lester is up to. At the the firm, the partners argue over whether they should re-acquire the office space they gave up during bankruptcy and also decide to hire a second investigator. Written by garykmcd

Alicia and Will represents her friend Janie Ludwig when her husband, Illinois Supreme Court Justice Roger Ludwig, is killed in a car accident. The insurance company is refusing to pay out on his $2 million insurance policy arguing negligence as he was talking on his cellphone at the time of the accident. When the lawyers start scoring points, the insurance company representative suggests that the judge may have committed suicide. Kalinda and Robyn get evidence he may have been forced off the road - meaning he was murdered. Cary meanwhile is pleased when a major pharmaceutical firm hires Lockhart Gardner giving him all of the credit. He's happy to get the credit but somewhat taken aback when he learns his father had something to do with it. Peter Florrick win the Democratic primary for Governor but Eli and Jordan become aware of a problem - with the parents of Zack's girlfriend Nisa. Written by garykmcd

Everyone is at Chicago's Shamrock Dinner hoping to get Cardinal James' endorsement for Governor. Alicia is informed by the police that one of her clients, Matthew Ashbough, was just murdered. She was representing him in 18 lawsuits he had initiated and as such had a long list of people who might like to see him dead. The man had his own peculiarities but she quite liked him. The police want details of the cases but Alicia is bound by attorney-client privilege. It all takes on a different tone when the police tell her they've found the killer's car with Alicia's home address programmed in the GPS. Meanwhile, Diane Lockhart is bowled over when Peter Florrick offers her a vacant seat on State Supreme Court. He can't name her until he's elected but she has to have an answer for him within a few hours. At home, Grace learns something interesting from her grandmother. Written by garykmcd

Alicia gets a spacious new office. Diane encourages Cary with a new office and news that there may be room for another partner in a few months. She also wants him to interview and hire a new associate. Having been offered a seat on the State Supreme Court by Peter Florrick - should he win the election - Diane hires Kalinda to do a background check on her so she'll know where she's vulnerable. Alicia is again representing Colin Sweeney who has been charged with disorderly conduct, a fairly mild charge arising out of a party that got out of hand. The State's Attorney however won't plea bargain is pushing for a tougher sentence. They realize the State's Attorney's office is dragging it out but it's Cary who figures out why - an impending Supreme Court decision could lead to Sweeney going to jail for life. She is particularly upset that he's just going on with his life, which includes going to college in the fall. The judge has issued a strict gag order on the court proceedings but when he learns Rainey tweeted about the case, he puts her in jail. Alicia is soon receiving anonymous information via the Internet and believes that a former client, Dylan Stack - and his friends in Anonymous - is responsible. Meanwhile, Diane's vetting for a possible State Supreme Court begins but a meeting with the Chief Justice presents her with a surprising roadblock. At the office, Alicia learns that Cary and the other fourth year associates are planning to leave and set up their own firm. He asks Alicia to join them. Written by garykmcd

Thanks to her mother, Alicia finds herself representing software coders for software developer Blowtorch. It all started when Charlene Peterson's husband Frank was killed in a car accident after working excessive hours. The employees, including Charlene, are looking for better working conditions, overtime etc... but when Alicia and Cary meet their lawyer - Alicia's nemesis Nancy Crozier - all 20 employees involved are fired on the spot. They all end up in front of the NLRB arguing that Blowtorch fired the employees when they were trying to form a union. The case has some blow-back on the firm however when the assistants demand better pay and working conditions. Even Kalinda is seriously thinking of leaving Lockhart Gardner and accepting an offer from Cary and the other fourth year associates who are looking to start a new firm. On the campaign trail meanwhile, the election is only two weeks away and Peter needs Alicia's help. Written by garykmcd

It's the day before the election and Zach is out at an early voting station when becomes suspicious of an unsealed ballot box. Alicia goes before Judge Abernathy on the issue and come up against Patti Niholm representing Peter's opponent, Mike Cristiva. Diane and Will and several others are soon on the case but when they count the ballots, the total is very much in Peter's favor. It all comes to an abrupt halt when a third party candidate challenges the entire election in Federal Court. Once that is out the way all the lawyers are scrambling to get a favorable decision from Judge Abernathy. Meanwhile, Cary and the other fourth year associates have found some ideal office space but to meet the price, he may have to withdraw his offer to Kalinda. It turns out the building is owned by Colin Sweeney and he has an interesting offer for them that includes his $22 million per year in legal services. Written by garykmcd
